Welcome

At simonfleury.studio, we specialise in the preservation and care of photography and associated works. Based in North London, the studio is led by photographic conservators Simon Fleury and Stephanie Jamieson, who bring over 30 years of combined experience, including at London’s Victoria and Albert Museum. The studio serves as a hub for innovation, practical learning, and creative exploration in photographic conservation and preservation. We also provide comprehensive training initiatives, including workshops and a 6-month Photographic Preservation and Care Trainee Programme, to share our expertise and address the growing skills gap in this vital area.

Our practice is grounded in both tradition and experimentation. The newly launched Conservation Lab, housed within our studio, reimagines conservation as an expanded and experimental practice. The Lab builds on Simon’s ongoing research into relational and experimental conservation, providing a collaborative, practice-based setting for exploring conservation beyond conventional boundaries. It represents our commitment to pushing the field forward—blending technical expertise with creative inquiry to address social, political, and environmental conditions in dynamic ways.

Simon worked for over 25 years at London’s Victoria and Albert Museum, where he was responsible for the care and preservation of the world-class photographic holdings. He has extensive experience in photography and recently completed a practice-led PhD, which underpins much of the studio’s approach to innovation and conservation research.

Stephanie is on the committee of the Icon Photographic Materials Group and has worked as a conservator at the Glamorgan Archives in Cardiff and the Victoria and Albert Museum. Together, Simon and Stephanie bring a wealth of expertise that shapes the studio’s approach to both conservation services and educational initiatives.

In collaboration with leading institutions and collections such as the Bodleian Library, Oxford, the Wilson Centre for Photography, Tate, the Archive of Modern Conflict, and the Museum of Youth Culture, we work alongside artists, photographers, and grassroots organisations. Our aim is to offer a dynamic environment where traditional conservation techniques intersect with innovative practices.

Besides our conservation services, we provide training days in photographic preservation for West Dean College. We are committed to building and sharing expertise through structured educational initiatives and hands-on collaborative experiences.

Whether you are a museum, archive, private collector, artist, or student, we are here to provide professional guidance and services in the care and safeguarding of photographic heritage. With a deep commitment to innovation, collaboration, and responsiveness to the evolving cultural landscape, simonfleury.studio is at the forefront of photographic conservation.
